Winery: Domaine de Triennes
Bottling: 2007 Viognier St. Fleur
Importer: Chambers & Chambers Wine Merchants
Sub-Region: Var, Provence
Estimated Retail Price: $14 – $17
Purchase Details/Tasting Source: Poured this wine for a distributor as guest help for a non-profit event. It was free for me. CORRECT.
Tasting Notes: Anyone who knows viognier know what to expect when they first stick their noses in the glass. Loads of ripe peach and white flowers just soared out of the glass on this one.
In the mouth was a very nice, smooth, oily texture that coated your mouth and left a really nice and lingering finish.
Peach, apricot and stone fruit were the prevalent flavor explosions going on in the mouth. Despite all of the fruit on the nose and the mouth, the wine still finished clean and dry.
Food and Context in Which to Enjoy: This would be perfect with any rich and rustic meat-based dishes. Smoked pork, roasted pork loin and even bouillabaisse or any saffron based dishes. My mouth is watering again.
Many of the attendees at the event looking for a riesling were very pleased and pleasantly surprised with this wine as a replacement. So think of this wine for those with a penchant for sweet or fruity wines, that are not necessarily dessert wines.
